...love of yarn*

Just looking for inspiration for my yarn braids.

I love that she added white yarn! It's BOLD look!
Lately I've been wearing them in two style -- up piled high on my head or just down... lol!
For the love of yarn braids... (source)
Loving this *retro* look!
The hat gives this look added flavor!
This looks a lot like my staple style when I wear my loose curls!
A french braid look -- the color really makes the braid pop!
I wonder if I can do this with mine?

“Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don't bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!”

wow... I look tired!

So, Like I said before -- fall is in the air, and I was looking for a protective style...
Right now -- I can't dish out $150 for box braids, so I started looking for a DIY on a low budget.
I was doing a  little research on what styles other naturals suggest and I noticed a few YouTubers raving about Yarn Braids/Genie Locs.
They reminded me of actual dread locs, which I thought would be fun to try without the commitment ;)

Materials:
  • Red Hart Acrylic Yarn (I picked some up at Wal-mart)
  • Combs
  • Clips for sectioning hair
  • I used Shea Moisture to moisturize my hair and oil to seal
  • Scissors
  • Lighter
  • Spray bottle

I used MsVcharles's process:

She also has a ton of videos for styling!

The whole process took me about 15 hours -- I braided all day yesterday, and finished up this morning.

Definitely time consuming but well worth it!  I plan on keeping them in for about a month... It seems that other naturals had issues when leaving them in longer.
Now the true test will come, when taking these suckers down -- I'm extremely tender headed!

time to give my fingers some rest!

I really like them!  What do you think?  Has anyone had any experience with Yarn Braids/Genie Locs?

...Twist and Poof*

...decided to share my hair of the day*
I've been rocking a wash and go all week, and today I wanted to switch it up a bit....

I kept my side part, spritz with good ol' H2O and started twisting.  I LOVE how my curls still popped and decided to stop with a side poof...  The only products I used was ECO Styler to slick my edges and Shea Moisture Organic Curl Enhancing Smoothie Coconut & Hibiscus (one of my staple products, it really makes my curls pop!).

And voila!

Quick and simple!  I received a ton a compliments at work... What do you think?

...Thinking Outside The Box*

Fall is in the air -- and now I'm thinking about protective styling for the winter.
So it's official.  The 90's are making a come back.... I'm thinking box braids this year.

Numerous celebs have been seen spotted rockin' the style this year....

Jada Pickett Smith rocks box braids pretty often...
We're starting to see them more often, especially with Willow's rise to fame for "whipping her hair!"

Brandy brought the style back this year... Braids were all she wore when she made her first debut, and inspired me to wear the style.  I wanted to be just like her!

Solange Knowles -- LOVING the waist length braids she wore earlier this year, but I know it would take FOREVER to get them done...

So, what do you all think? Are you thinking of protective styling for the winter months?
The next BIG task would be to find someone who braids in the "frozen tundra..."

...lovin the fro*

Radical simply means "grasping things at the root."
Angela Davis

We all know about the Black Power movement that took place in the 1960′s, but would that be considered the true “roots” of the afro itself?
My favorite afro’s of all time have got to be Angela Davis, Pam Grier, and Diana Ross.

“Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hair stylist you like.”
Fusterated -- I decided to pull my hair into a poof with a black piece of satin.

...frizzy hair don't care*

So, today's supposed to be the first day of summer, but it's definitely in the low 60's and raining.
Awesome way to start SUMMER... seriously.
And it's just my luck... it's EXTREMELY humid outside.

And... yea, my hair doesn't do humidity....
So today is another one of those... frizzy hair don't care days!
